Clevedon Garden Room Extension

Project Details

Another bespoke example of creating a building that adjoins the main house. The client in Clevedon, Somerset had received a quotation for a traditional house extension which came in at almost three times the cost of our SIP panelled building. Even though it adjoins the house, there is a set of original glass sliding patio doors between the two buildings separating both areas. The client removed an old conservatory and some timber outbuildings prior to our site survey.

Challenges and Solutions

Main challenge here was to make sure our building adjoined the house to enable the client to continue to use the sliding doors into the main house so as to create a deep joining reveal and minimise the step up into the new building. We had to adjust our standard design at this end of the building and achieved the desired result. The client uses the left side of the building as an office so we introduced a double aspect full height window to this corner of the building with a minimalist post to maximise the glass area whilst still providing the necessary support to the roof at this corner. This allowed maximum viewing of the garden.

Outcome

Considering the cost saving to the client, when comparing it to a traditional extension, the result was such good value for money. With the careful choice of cladding material and quite brave choice of colour it compliments the stone façade of the main house perfectly and another example of how we can create a bespoke solution and save money at the same time.
